Purple

The other day I bought a cardigan which was a bright lilac colour. I remember my mum saying that was the colour for me back when I was wearing some serious industrial goth type stuff and thinking, that would be my luck, friggin lilac is my colour. 15 years later, I decide I love it. I painted my studio this colour, a risky but GREAT decision in the end as it brightened it up and matched the weird grey carpet. Now I get to my friend *Dan’s place and all the flowers in his garden (which I am currently sitting in ) are well, different shades of purple. It’s that thing , once you notice it, it’s there all around you. I think there are more than five senses or even six. What if there are 10 senses and we just don’t know how to tune in the others? mmm  A different great colour is apple green, kelly green, not in huge quantities, and this wasn’t planned but loving Liz’s colour combo in this pic at band practice.

*footnote: The same ‘Dan’ appears in the song ‘February’ : Dan says don’t dream all your days away …because I just know you were wondering

Good night Brooklyn

June 19th, 2008

I’m in New York for the month. I am hanging with friends and studying and writing songs. Nothing like a change of scenery to get things moving along. I’m playing at the Living Room in New York on the 9th of July for any peoples…..I will be howling a the moon and playing my new songs the last of which is a fairytale gone wrong, some words of it are:

“In the afternoon, asleep at best ,
at worst I send you on a quest
the empty egg, the things you said
the night I failed you in a test
the sword that fell
and my living hell
the vines and flowers grow so well…”

ok I wrote that to learn the lyrics as well. . .good night Brooklyn

oh you simply must come

Today I found out that climb to the top of the mountain you have to work up to, as in start practising with hikes. No hills in Illinois as far as I know. Indiana, Wisconsin? Ok thinking about that little glitch. It looks so NICE doesn’t it?

sha-shing

May 21st, 2008

I don’t know why that’s the subject, it just popped into my head. So, what’s up , what the hell is up? Not much really. It’s a super late Chicago spring. Today was simply lovely, but hello, its like I’m still holding a grudge with my arms crossed. Chicago is like that lover that has overstepped the boundary for the last time, until you have a great night and then it’s all a o k again. gee that happened alot when I was 18 but now I am hello 33 this week!!!! Thanks for the Louis Vitton handbag and Chanel perfume even if they are fakes, I appreciate you , my lovely devoted fans.

I am working on a project with Jori Hulkonnen, he lives in Finland and makes elecktronik musik. I have mentioned this before a bit. It has been fun. I hope it turns into a record. I am also working on some new songs with Liz and Charles, thinking about recording in the next few months. Needing to get away for a bit so maybe starting in Austin , TX? who knows.

Been asked to play a festival in Vancouver in August. Was thinking of going there anyway, so why not climb a mountain and play some songs, eat some food, camp, plant a tree, take a road trip… will include details soon.

Not much else. My friends the Presets just went to number one in Australia. Good on you boys. Getting rather popular here too. Congrats. love ya. schweet. Don’t forget me on the damn list just cause you went gold or something.

Bye!

Schubas

This is me and Rebecca Gates at Schubas last night.Rebs used to live here in Chicago but we first met when her band The Spinannes came to Australia in..um….we think about 12 years ago now but can’t be sure.
We toured together with Frente and kept in touch ever since.
We just spent a lovely few days talking about music and the making of it.
And I always realise how important that is to be around all the people that know the nonsense in my head as well as I do. It makes me feel more normal and happier too. So cheers to that and cheers to Schubas, a great venue I love to play at and where people dont think $10 is alot of money to spend on a cd that took many years to make. Actually double cheers to that !

CD CD CD omg CD

April 29th, 2008

If you read that last post you may think, gee what a downer I was. I write and leave that shit in there because the most important and interesting part of all of this for me is the process. When I read other creative peoples stuff, I often am like, that’s cool…. what did it take to make, really? like, no I mean really? Stop trying to be blasé, I know it wasn’t easy, really really really???  Just so you know.

Anyhows. good news alert. For you US customer people, supportive friendly humans out there, if you want to purchase a real cd from my label Apple Ceremony. You finally can, right here , right now, and for a long time to come. Check out the store and or hit this lovely Pay Pal button.
